Waffles, Weapons & Amber: A Gloomy (But Delicious) Day in Gdańsk

Waffles, Weapons & Amber: A Gloomy (But Delicious) Day in Gdańsk
February 2026  ·  Poland

Gdańsk

Cold Winds & Warm Waffles

I didn't do a lot in Gdańsk — February was cold and gloomy, and the weather really shaped my pace. I didn't make it to Sopot this time, which I still regret a little... but I guess that's part of travelling too.

🍳 Breakfast

Łąka Bar

★★★★★ ~1 hour Mid-range

After arriving early, I went straight here. I ordered the buttermilk chicken waffle with a glass of wine — everything was honestly 10/10.

The staff were lovely, and I loved the creative menu with its Asian-fusion twists (they even have ramen!). Highly recommend for a satisfying start to the day.

🔫 Adventure

DSTeam Strzelnica

★★★★☆ ~1.5 hours PLN 135

With not much planned, I decided to try something adventurous: my first-ever shooting range experience. The staff spoke excellent English and made me feel completely safe throughout.

The "All In" Package I got to try 4 different guns, including pistols, an mAK, and an AK. Exciting and surprisingly well-guided.
📅 Booking: Easy online agenda  ·  A bit pricey vs Warsaw, but memorable.

💎 Sightseeing

Mariacka Street (Amber Street)

★★★★☆ ~45 mins Free to wander

I wandered down this beautiful historic street to hunt for amber. Filled with jewelry shops and historic charm. While the big amber pieces are pricey, the smaller souvenirs are very reasonable.

Note: It never felt overwhelming — plenty of space to browse and take photos.

🔱 Neptune's Fountain & Długi Targ

~20 mins Free

Right in the heart of the city — the Roman god of the sea presiding over the main square. A few street performers add to the atmosphere. Worth a short stop if you're nearby.

☕ Coffee & Cake

Mr. & Mrs. Coffee

★★★★★ ~1 hour Affordable

Small, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated. I ordered the Raspberry Raf, which was delicious.

The Highlight: The owner was incredibly warm. We chatted for a long time, and she even recommended where to buy affordable amber locally — a gem of a tip!

🍰 Also Try: Kawiarnia Retro If you're craving dessert, locals swear by this spot. Cakes are made fresh daily and the vintage decor is charming — perfect for warming up on a cold afternoon.

Travel Tips

  • Getting Around: The Old Town is very walkable. For trams and buses, download the Jakdojade app — it covers all routes and fares.
  • Day Trips (Sopot, Gdynia): Use the PKP Intercity or Koleo app for rail tickets. Fast, cheap, and reliable.
  • Buying Amber: Ask a local or café owner for recommendations — you'll avoid tourist-trap pricing and find better pieces.
