5 Days in Northern Europe: Copenhagen Winter Edition + A Day in Malmö
I was genuinely excited when I managed to grab a cheap winter flight to Denmark in January 2025. The flight return ticket cost only 151 złoty, which felt unreal for a Northern Europe destination.
This trip was planned as a 5-day, 4-night winter escape, with Copenhagen as my base and a one-day side trip to Malmö, Sweden.

Lille Bakery
I started my morning watching bakers dive into sourdough prep. You are truly spoiled for choice here. The atmosphere was incredible; The staff were attentive and clearly passionate.
Order: Bun with butter & cheese + Sausage roll.
Since it was winter, the Reffen Street Food Market was closed. Instead, I strolled along the harbour. Despite the cold, the sea breeze was refreshing.
The Route: Helligånds Kirke ➝ Frederik's Church ➝ Lunch ➝ Glyptoteket Museum.
Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteket
A stunning collection of sculpture and art. The winter garden inside is a lush escape from the cold.
Student Ticket (Under 27): DKK 108
Ended the day with a cozy pizza night back at the hostel.
I grabbed an Almond Croissant and Matcha Latte from Rug Coffee near the station. Time to cross the bridge!
Morning Sightseeing
St. Peter's Church (10:23 AM): A gothic beauty right in the center. (Tip: Free toilets on the left entrance!)
Malmö Rådhus: Stunning Dutch Renaissance town hall in Stortorget Square.
Slottsmöllan (Castle Mill): Visited the Slottsträdgården—enchanting secret gardens divided by hedges into different themes.

Malmö City Library
The weather suddenly turned to a downpour, so I sought shelter here. I immediately fell in love.
Huge glass windows offer inspiring views of the greenery.
IKEA & Vintage Hunting
Lunch at IKEA Svagertorp: I couldn't visit Sweden without this! I took the bus to Svagertorp (included in my pass).
Back to City Center:
- Kärleksgatan (Love Street): The spot for vintage shops.
- Biu!Tea: Stopped for a low-sugar dessert.
- Hemköp Supermarket: Grabbed dinner supplies.
Brunch at Wulff & Konstali: A creative board where you choose 5-7 small items. Delicious, though slightly pricey.
Grundtvig’s Church (1:35 PM): Breathtaking and free. The "unadorned" Gothic-expressionist aesthetic is famous for a reason.
The Route: Nyhavn ➝ Rosenborg Castle ➝ Apotek 57 ➝ Amalienborg ➝ Frederik's Church ➝ The Black Diamond.
Royal Traditions
Amalienborg Palace is the official residence of the Danish royal family. It’s an impressive octagonal courtyard that feels grand yet accessible.
The Royal Life Guards arrive at Amalienborg at 12:00 PM. For the full experience, be there around 11:30 AM to watch the parade leaving from Rosenborg Castle.

Apotek 57
I ordered the seasonal pancakes. Let's talk about the price: DKK 150.72.
This is officially the most expensive pancake I have ever eaten in my life (LOL). It was good, but perhaps a bit "too classic" to justify the price.
The Black Diamond
More than just a library, this is a modern architectural masterpiece leaning over the water. It features free Wi-Fi, open reading rooms, and a cafe.
It was the perfect modern contrast to the historic morning.
Need to store bags? Use the Black Diamond lockers. Totally free!
Small Lockers: Level 0, left of entrance.
Large Lockers: Level 1, under the stairs. Fits carry-on suitcases.
Locking: Close door -> Enter 4-digit code. Unlocking: Enter code again.
Dining out was a shock to the wallet, but the sense of hygge made it worth every penny.
